Loyola University New Orleans baseball team defeated Southern University 7-3 Tuesday night at Lee-Hines Field.
Britt Pellegrin opened the scoring in the second inning when he hit a solo home run. However, Southern countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning when Harley Wiltz singled with runners on second and third to give the Jaguars the lead.
The Jaguars (17-17) increased their lead in the third frame as Tyler Kirksey singled and then stole second and third. Tomlin hit a sacrifice fly to center which scored Kirksey to make the score 3-1. However, Evan Turkish responded with a home run in the fourth inning to cut the Wolf Pack deficit to one.
Loyola took the lead with a three run seventh inning. Britt Pellegrin scored the first run after he walked and moved to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch. Nevin Brown picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice.
Garrett Lacour and Allen Newman walked with two outs before Philip Cazayoux doubled down the right field line to score Brown and Lacour.
Bradley Brunet padded the Loyola lead in the eighth inning when he doubled to the gap in right centerfield to score Carmelo LoSauro and Turkish.
Daniel Posway started the game for Loyola and worked five innings while allowing four hits, three runs, and one earned run. Cameron Retif (1-2) picked up the win as he worked the sixth inning while only allowing a walk. Tony Asta picked up his first save of the season as he worked the final three frames allowing only two hits while striking out two.
Camilo Godoy started for the second straight week against Loyola and allowed four hits and two runs in six innings. Zephan Rochelle (1-4) got the loss as he picked .2 of an inning while allowing three runs, one earned run on two walks. Santos Salvidor allowed two runs and three hits in 1.1 innings while Cade LeBlanc pitched the last inning only allowing a hit.
Eight different Wolf Pack players collected a hit. Cazayoux led the charge with a two hit game with his two RBI's. Turkish and Pellegrin each had two runs and a home run.
Six different Jaguars collected hits. Wiltz was 1 for 4 with two RBI's.
Gavin Webster reached base twice with a hit and a walk.
