FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) -

Highlands High School has named Kevin Listerman as the new Boys' Basketball Head Coach.

Listerman has been in education for nine years and is currently a biology teacher and assistant varsity basketball coach at Colerain High School in Cincinnati, OH.  In addition to filling the boys' basketball head coach position, Listerman will join the faculty at Highlands High School as a biology teacher.

More than nine years of teaching science at the secondary level that included biology, anatomy and physiology, and AP chemistry made Listerman the top candidate to fill the open biology position. Additionally, his experience and proven record in basketball made him the obvious choice to head the boys' basketball program at Highlands.

Listerman's notable basketball career began as a student athlete, where he appeared in four NCAA Division II Basketball tournaments and played in two NCCA National Championship games.

Listerman has held the position of assistant basketball coach at Northern Kentucky University and has coached at the varsity level at Bellevue, Boone County, Covington Catholic and Colerain high schools. He also is the head coach of a minor league basketball team in the Kentucky Basketball Developmental League (KBDL) where he was named coach of the year in 2008.

"I am very excited to continue the tradition of excellence, both academically and athletically, at Highlands," stated Listerman. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to have an impact on both the students and community of Fort Thomas."

"Our committee was very excited to find such an outstanding teacher and coach," said Principal Brian Robinson  "We feel that Kevin will be a tremendous addition to our science department and just the right person to build an elite basketball program. His record of success, commitment to excellence, and enthusiasm for impacting young people in a positive way makes us feel fortunate to have him as part of our learning community."

"Kevin has made a tremendous, positive impact on every school that he has been associated with as a player, teacher and coach," said Dale Mueller, athletic director. "He is a man of outstanding character and a great role model for young people. We are truly blessed that he will be a member of the Highlands community and lead our basketball program."

Listerman succeeds Mike Flynn who stepped down from the position. Listerman will begin serving as head coach for the 2013-14 school year.
