BATON ROUGE – After a successful NCAA Championships in which the LSU gymnastics team earned a berth in the Super Six for the third time in school history, the Tigers checked in at No. 5 in the final GymInfo rankings released Monday.
It is the highest final ranking for LSU since 2008 when the Tigers were also fifth in the final standings.
LSU ended the season with a record of 25-11, securing the most wins in a year since the 2008 squad finished with 26. The Tigers also earned a 10-5 postseason record, the first time LSU has reached 10 postseason wins since the 1990 squad went 11-6.
LSU wrapped up the season with a fifth-place finish in the Super Six on Saturday, scoring a 197.050 that ranks as the sixth-highest postseason score in school history and the second-highest at an NCAA Championship meet.
The Tigers also boasted 10 All-America honors, tying the school record set by the 2006 and 2009 squads, and it also ranked third-most among all teams this season.
Sophomore sensation Rheagan Courville captured the first national title of her career by winning vault with a 9.9250 Sunday at NCAA Event Finals, and it marked the ninth individual national title and third on vault in LSU history.
Lloimincia Hall, Jessie Jordan, Maliah Mathis, Sarie Morrison and Randii Wyrick joined Courville in earning All-America recognition in 2013, giving LSU 126 total honors in program history.
Florida ranked No. 1 in the final standings after winning its first national title Saturday night. Oklahoma was No. 2, Alabama No. 3, UCLA No. 4 and LSU No. 5. Georgia ranked sixth, Michigan seventh, Minnesota eighth, Utah ninth and Arkansas rounded out the Top 10.
LSU is expected to return 21 of 24 routines for the 2014 season as well as seven All-Americans in Courville, Kaleigh Dickson, Hall, Jordan, Mathis, Morrison and Wyrick and five All-SEC performers next year – Courville, Hall, Jordan, Morrison and Jessica Savona.
