TUSCALOOSA, AL (WAFB) -

Second-ranked LSU had to play past midnight, but used a three run rally in the 16th inning to outlast Alabama 11-8 in game two of their weekend SEC series.

LSU (36-3, 14-2) broke an 8-8 deadlock when Christian Ibarra drew a two-out walk and scored after a pinch-hit double by Tyler Moore and a wild pitch.

Jacoby Jones followed with an RBI double and Ty Ross capped the rally with another RBI, his fourth of the game.

Ross had given LSU at 7-3 lead with a three run homer earlier in the game, but the Crimson Tide used their own three-run shot by Kenny Roberts with one out in the bottom of the ninth off LSU closer Chris Cotton to erase an 8-5 Tigers lead and force extra innings.

Alex Bregman also hit a three-run homer for LSU, sandwiched by a triple and a double for three hits in the game.

Nate Fury pitched four scoreless innings to stem the Tide through the 14th inning and Kurt McCune worked the final two scoreless frames to pick up the victory.

The sixteen innings ties the LSU record for the longest game in school history, which had been reached twice before. LSU goes for the sweep Sunday afternoon.
