LSU women’s basketball adds signee DaShawn Harden

From LSU Sports

BATON ROUGE – LSU women's basketball head coach Nikki Caldwell has announced the signing of 5-foot-9 junior college All-America point guard DaShawn Harden of Johnson County (Kan.) Community College.

Harden was recently named to the 2013 WBCA Junior College All-America First Team after guiding Johnson County CC to a 30-2 overall record, a No. 1 national ranking in the NJCAA Division II poll and a second straight East Jayhawk Conference championship.

"DaShawn is the type of player who will make an immediate impact for our team," said Caldwell. "Coming from a program coached by Ben Conrad and ranked No. 1 in junior college, you can expect DaShawn to be a tough player at the guard position."

Harden earned MVP honors of the East Jayhawk Conference after posting 14.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game as a sophomore. She ranked third in the conference in scoring, first in three-point accuracy (43 percent), first in free throw accuracy (.791), fourth in three-point fields made (53) and fourth in steals. Harden reached double figures in 19 games, including five of 20 or more points. She averaged 22.5 points in the Region VI Tournament.

Harden, a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kan., played her freshman season at the University of Oklahoma. She saw action in 34 games and averaged 3.5 points and 1.8 assists per contest. She was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Nov. 15, 2011.

Harden joined the Sooners after being ranked the No. 33 overall player for the Class of 2011 by ESPN Hoop Gurlz. Harden joins a talented LSU signing class that includes Raigyne Moncrief, a 5-foot-10 guard from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jasmine Rhodes, a 5-foot-10 forward from Mobile, Ala., and Rina Hill, a 5-foot-8 point guard from Nagoya-Shi, Japan, who signed with the Lady Tigers on Thursday. Moncrief and Rhodes signed with the Lady Tigers during the early period in November.

Moncrief, who is attending American Heritage High School (Fla.), is ranked the No. 18 high school player in America by ESPN Hoop Gurlz. Rhodes led Faith Academy in Mobile, Ala., to a Class 5A state championship in March and was named Class 5A MVP in the process. Hill was a member of the Japan U18 National Team and prepped at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
