Tires catch fire in Avondale

Cincinnati fire crews battled a fire in Avondale on Friday afternoon.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., crews received a call about smoke in the area of Whittier Street and Van Buren Avenue.

First responding units reported heavy black smoke showing in the are.

Upon arrival fire crews discovered several rubber auto-tires, piled against a workshop type building, on fire.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the outdoor fire; however, the fire had spread inside the workshop. Crews were also able to extinguish it quickly.

Fire crews remained on the scene for an additional 30 minutes to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters and the damaged is estimated at $1,000.

The cause of the fire is the result of sparks from a power cutting tool, assisted by proximal gasoline, which ignited the pile of auto-tires.
