A man was arrested on a murder charge Wednesday after his girlfriend's 18-month-old daughter died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Willie Stone, 23, of Baton Rouge is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Azaria Jackson.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies were called Monday to a home in the 4400 block of Floynell Drive, which is near Jefferson Highway and Bluebonnet Boulevard.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene. According to reports, Stone told deputies the child was unresponsive when he went to wake her.

The coroner performed an autopsy Wednesday and determined the child died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Detectives said during questioning Stone admitted to hitting the child while the mother was away at work.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
