JEANERETTE, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities said a 13-year-old boy faces charges after a report of a missing forklift and damage at a business.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said the teen is a runaway from Jeanerette and was arrested Tuesday just before noon. The case will be handled in juvenile court, so his name will not be released.

The damage happened at a business on LA 87 in Jeanerette. Deputies said they believe the boy broke into the business and took the forklift. It was driven through a fence and out of the company's yard.

The $56,000 piece of equipment was found behind a home in a nearby subdivision.

The theft was reported Tuesday morning and then about two hours later, another business in the area called the sheriff's office to report a boy was hiding there.

He faces the following charges:

Simple burglary

Simple criminal damage of property

Criminal trespass

Runaway juvenile

SMPSO said he was released to a guardian pending court proceedings.
