With only one year remaining on his contract, the pressure was on Southern University to give men's head basketball coach Roman Banks an extension.
The school announced on Tuesday in a written statement that a new deal has been reached. Details of the extension are not available as the deal is still being ironed out.
"We have reached an agreement, in principle, to extend the contract of Head Coach Roman Banks as the leader of the Southern Jaguars Men's Basketball team," said Athletics Director Dr. William Broussard.
Banks has undoubtedly worked wonders on "The Bluff"; taking a program that was 17-74 in the three years prior to his arrival and leading it to back-to-back winning seasons. His record at Southern in just two years is 40-23.
This year the Jags reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in six years and pushed No. 1-seed Gonzaga to the limit in the opening round.
Coach Banks' extension will likely be presented to the Southern Board of Supervisors for approval on April 26 at the earliest.
