BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The doors are open at an urgent care clinic set up to take some of the patients from the old Earl K. Long Hospital.
The North Baton Rouge Clinic is on Airline Highway, just down from Earl K. Long. It will be open 24/7 to treat minor illnesses and injuries. And, officials said it has some perks over a traditional emergency room.
"Usually, you can move the patients faster and I think if they're seen in a timely manner, they would rather come somewhere local rather than be seen in a much shorter time period than go somewhere and wait four hours in emergency rooms," said Dr. Kevin DiBenedetto, the medical director.
Officials said the clinic is staffed for a high volume of patients and are expecting just that.
Healthline reporter Elizabeth Vowell will continue our coverage of the Earl K. Long closing at 5 p.m. as she takes a look at how LSU's medical education program will continue.
