LSU's Danielle Ballard named third-team Freshman All-America

From LSU Sports

BATON ROUGE – After shattering the LSU single-season record for steals with 100, guard Danielle Ballard was recognized as a third-team Freshman All-America recipient by Full Court Magazine, the publication announced on Friday.

Ballard, a native of Memphis, Tenn., enjoyed one of the most prolific freshmen seasons in school history, averaging 12.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.9 steals per game. The Southeastern Conference All-Freshman selection ranked second among all freshmen in the conference in scoring and rebounding while leading all players in the league in steals.

Her 100 steals on the year broke Marie Ferdinand's record of 93 set in 2000 and were the most by an LSU player – men or women – in the history of the program. Ballard ranked second nationally among all freshmen in steals, while producing 21 games of double-figure scoring.

Ballard helped lead LSU to a 22-12 overall record and the Lady Tigers' first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance since 2008. She was four times named SEC Freshman of the Week with her highest scoring output of the season coming against a ranked win over West Virginia on Nov. 23 with 25 points. She accounted for three double-doubles and registered a season-best 15 rebounds in a big win over No. 9 Georgia on Feb. 10.
