Victim beaten with steel bar dies, suspect charged with murder

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, a man living in a group home died from his injuries after being beaten with a steel bar while he was sleeping.

The incident happened on March 23, 2013 around 8:30 p.m. in the 11000 block of East Big Bend Avenue.

Richard Ray Gore, 66, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and Wilson Cousin Jr., 46, was charged with aggravated second degree battery.

According to police reports, Cousin told deputies that Gore continuously disrespected him by calling him names. Witnesses said Cousins picked up a three-foot long steel bar and beat Gore while he was asleep in bed. Gore had multiple cuts, broken bones and a possible fractured skull.

Gore died from his injuries on April 11, 2013 and the suspect's charges were upgraded to second degree murder.
