ZACHARY, LA (WAFB) - People living around Zachary have been using the new LA 64 and LA 61 intersection for a few weeks, but city officials put the finishing touches on the project Friday morning.
East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden joined the mayor of Zachary and other officials for the announcement. The improvements were part of the mayor's Green Light Program, which was set up to help roads and streets throughout the parish.
The mayor of Zachary said his city is growing in the direction of the improvements.
"It's a good growth and I think we've planned very well for it," said Mayor David Amrhein. "We have the right infrastructure in place and we have a good UDC code, so Zachary can attract the kind of business that Zachary needs and wants."
There is a huge mixed-use development headed for this part of Zachary and perhaps more improvements headed to LA 64 as well.
