VILLE PLATTE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police said a Taser was used to subdue a naked man fighting with a sheriff's deputy after a car accident.
It happened on I-49 near the Evangeline Parish-St. Landry Parish line Wednesday around 4:30 p.m.
Trooper Stephen Hammons with LSP said the preliminary investigation showed a deputy with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office and a state trooper responded to a two-vehicle crash in the area. The deputy was the first to arrive on the scene.
According to reports, a man with no clothes on started running toward the deputy. The man was later identified as Byron Simon, 22, of Ville Platte. Detectives said Simon jumped into the deputy's car and a struggle began.
Hammons said the trooper made it to the scene a short time later and saw the two fighting. He added during the struggle, the gun went off. No one was hurt by the gunfire.
As the struggle continued, the trooper fired his Taser and hit Simon. He was taken into custody and then driven to a nearby hospital for treatment.
He was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the following charges:
Battery on a police officer
Attempted disarming of a peace officer
Resisting a police officer (4 counts)
Simple burglary of an emergency vehicle
The case remains under investigation.
