Police jury hands control of past-due utility bills to small claims courts

NEW ROADS, LA (WAFB) - More than a million dollars in unpaid bills for garbage and mosquito abatement services has one parish making changes.

The Pointe Coupee Parish Police Jury is now allowing small claims courts to handle past-due utility bills. The vote to make the move was unanimous.

Small claims courts are made up of a constable and justice of the peace for each of the 12 justice of the peace districts in the parish.
