HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities are asking for the public's help in trying to solve an unexplained death from 2000.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said the body of Joseph Hayden, 23, of Hammond was found in a field near his home on Olivia Holton Road on April 13, 2000.

Deputies said the autopsy did not point to an exact cause of death and the toxicology report also provided no clues about what killed him.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards said Hayden was last seen alive two days earlier after having dinner with his mother just before 6 p.m. He was reported missing on April 12 after family members had not heard from him.

Reports indicate his truck, keys and all belongings were found in tact, with Hayden being the only thing missing.

Investigators reported although he was upset about a relationship, his relatives told them it wasn't like him to just leave, especially without contacting them.

Edwards wants anyone with information on Hayden's death to contact Detective Mike Sticker with TPSO at 985-902-2088.
