BRPD officers identified after being stabbed

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The two Baton Rouge Police Officers that were stabbed Monday in the 100 block of North 24th St. have been identified.

Cpl. Donald Johnson, 42, and Officer Brian Strong, 29 were stabbed in Mid-City Monday afternoon while trying to break up a fight between two individuals.

The officers fatally shot one of the individuals involved after he allegedly attacked the officers with a knife, police said. The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Bradford Louis Etheredge.

Etheredge died at a hospital.

Johnson is a 10 year veteran and Strong is a three year veteran with the police department.

Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave per standard departmental protocol.

This stabbing/shooting incident is still under investigation.
