BATON ROUGE, La. – Top-ranked LSU (30-2) meets Southern University (12-12) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Zephyr Field in Metairie, La., in the 10th annual Wally Pontiff Jr. Foundation Baseball Classic.

The game can be heard on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network (98.1 FM in Baton Rouge), and live audio and stats may be accessed in the Geaux Zone at www.LSUsports.net.

The game can be seen live on Cox Sports Television, with the Jumbo Sports Network producing the telecast.

Tuesday's contest is the first of two LSU-Southern games that will be played on consecutive nights. The teams will meet again at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Alex Box Stadium.

LSU has won 12 straight games and is tied with Vanderbilt (11-1) for the overall SEC lead. LSU has won nine consecutive SEC games, marking its longest league win streak since the 2008 club won 12 straight conference games.

LSU's 30-2 mark is the Tigers' best 32-game record in the history of the Fighting Tiger program. The Tigers are 11-1 in SEC play for the first time since the 1997 club was also 11-1.

Wally Pontiff Jr., an all-SEC third baseman at LSU, died in 2002 at the age of 21 due to a heart abnormality. Proceeds from Tuesday's game will go to the Wally Pontiff Jr. Foundation, which benefits charitable organizations throughout Louisiana.

LSU's first game at Zephyr Field occurred in 1998 vs. Tulane, and the Tigers have an all-time record of 19-12 at the AAA minor league facility, including a 1-0 mark against Southern. The Tigers defeated the Jaguars, 7-6 in 11 innings, in 1999 at Zephyr Field.

"We're honored to participate in this game because of what Wally Pontiff meant to LSU and what his foundation continues to mean to our community," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "It's also a great opportunity to play in front of our great fans in the New Orleans area, and our players enjoy the experience of competing in a Triple-A ball park."

Mainieri said that junior right-hander Kurt McCune will start the game on the mound for the Tigers. McCune, who suffered a stress fracture in his back prior to the Tigers' opening game versus Maryland, will be making his first appearance of the season.

McCune, a product of Norco, La. was 3-4 with a 4.04 ERA in 42.1 innings last season, recording 14 walks and 24 strikeouts.

Southern coach Roger Cador will counter Tuesday with freshman right-hander Camilo Godoy (0-2, 7.11 ERA).

LSU leads the all-time series with Southern, 46-2, as the teams first met in 1970. LSU has won seven consecutive games over Southern, including a 15-5 victory last season (March 20) in Alex Box Stadium. The Jaguars' last win over the Tigers came on May 3, 2005, a 9-5 SU triumph in the original Alex Box Stadium. Southern's only other win in the series occurred on March 6, 2001, an 11-6 victory in Alex Box Stadium.
