Operation 'No show' efforts continue in Ascension Parish

ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reports a continuing effort in the parish to arrest individuals that are failing to appear in court after being arrested on felony and misdemeanor criminal charges. The ongoing initiative is "OPERATION NO SHOW."

Persons who are arrested on criminal charges are entitled to a bond. Upon bonding from jail the individual is given a notice to be in court on a specific date. A large number of people ignore the court date which subsequently leads to a bench warrant being issued by the court for failure to appear in court.

In an effort to reduce the bench warrant numbers, Sheriff Jeff Wiley deployed another task force on April 4, 2013 targeting defendants that have failed to appear in felony and misdemeanor court, Hanna said.

In approximately two weeks another task force will be deployed. If you have outstanding bench warrants you are urged to come in and take care of them, or you will be arrested.
