A Salem woman is accused of dumping her 89-year-old mother's body near a thrift store dumpster in Michigan.

Kelly Rhodes, 49, of Salem, was arraigned in a Michigan courtroom Wednesday. She is charged with removing a dead body without the medical examiner's permission, a misdemeanor crime.

The body of Mary Gertrude Grenia was discovered behind a Goodwill store by an employee in Port Huron Township, about 55 miles northeast of Detroit.

A Goodwill employee discovered the body of Mary Gertrude Grenia, of Salem, March 12. Investigators said the woman had been dead for some time and her body was hidden under snow and blankets.

An autopsy was performed, but no cause of death has been determined yet.

Investigators said after a sketch of Grenia was released to the public, a tip led to the arrest of her daughter.

In Salem, neighbors told FOX 12 that Rhodes and her mother moved out of their home March 1. Neighbors said Rhodes told them she was moving to Canada to live with her fiance.

Rhodes remains behind bars on $10,000 bond. Her next court date is set for April 15.
