BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Congressman Bill Cassidy is officially running for US Senate in 2014.
Cassidy made the announcement Wednesday morning on WAFB. He is challenging US Sen. Mary Landrieu, who will be seeking a fourth term.
Cassidy said Landrieu's politics are too aligned with President Barack Obama's and that Louisiana conservatives need a voice. The Senate race is still 19 months away.
Cassidy, a Republican doctor from Baton Rouge, was elected to Congress in 2008 and won re-election in 2010 and 2012.
Landrieu is one of only two Democrats from Louisiana on Capitol Hill.
