ROBERT, LA (WAFB) - One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash on I-12 Monday morning.
Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Terry Gerot, 71, of Covington. The two other drivers suffered minor injuries. The crash happened on I-12 at the LA 445/Robert exit around 6 a.m.
Troopers said their initial investigation showed a 2005 Nissan car was broken down in the left lane of I-12 West from an unrelated incident and a 2011 Dodge utility truck stopped behind it and the driver turned on his emergency flashers to warn other vehicles.
They reported Gerot didn't see the stopped vehicles and the 2003 Ford pickup she was driving rear-ended the other truck, pushing it into the car.
Investigators said Gerot was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office. They added she was not wearing a seat belt.
Michael Lawrence, 33, of Slidell, and Kalin Mckenzie, 20, of Sandy Hook, MS, were the other drivers in the crash. Troopers reported Lawrence was driving the Dodge and Mckenzie was driving the Nissan. They added both drivers were buckled up at the time of the wreck.
It is unknown if fog played a factor in the crash. It remains under investigation.
