DALLAS, TX (KLTV) -

ESPN.com is reporting that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has reached an agreement with the team worth $108 million over six years, which breaks down to $18 million a year.

According to NFL.com, the deal will make Romo, 32, the highest-paid player in Cowboys history. The contract includes over $55 million in guarantees, topping the $52 million in guaranteed money that Joe Flacco earned from the Baltimore Ravens as part of his six-year, $120.6 million deal.

Romo's current contract would have counted $16.8 million against the 2013 salary cap, but the new extension allowed the Cowboys to clear up cap space so they can add additional pieces to the team.

Tony Romo signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Illinois in 2003, although he didn't break into the starting lineup until 2006. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback  has completed 2,097 of 3,240 passes (64.7%) for a total of 25,737 yards, 177 touchdowns and 91 interceptions. His career passer rating is 95.6. Romo has a career record of 55-38, although he is just 1-4 in the playoffs.

Romo holds several Cowboys team records, including most career touchdown passes (177) and most passing yards in a season (4,903) and passing touchdowns in a season (36).
