Metro Council approves alcohol sales at BREC parks

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - How do you feel about alcohol being sold at BREC parks? It is an issue that was passed Wednesday night at the East Baton Rouge Metro Council meeting with a vote of 10-0-2.

The Alcoholic Beverage Control Director wanted to change the city ordinance to allow alcohol sales for special events at the nearly 30 BREC facilities in East Baton Rouge Parish. The amendment to the EBR Parish Ordinance will allow alcohol at select facilities such as golf courses and rental halls.

BREC facilities will be allowed to serve from 10 a.m. until midnight, seven days a week. The ordinance proposal contains a special waiver for BREC that allows them to sell alcohol within 300 feet of a public playground.

This is allowed because a special class of license was created to allow the alcohol sales.

Tara wicker and Ronnie Edwards abstained from the vote.
