CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) -

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bootsy Collins spent time with local students on Tuesday.

Bootsy and his wife Patti worked with aspiring musicians at Hughes High School, on behalf of the Bootsy Collins Foundation.

Hughes lost their music program due to budget cuts. As part of the foundation's 'Week Long Music Program', Bootsy and Patti encouraged students to pick up an instrument and play.

The funk bassist, singer and songwriter revealed how he got his start as a musician playing the clarinet in school.

At the end of the visit, Bootsy presented the students with a signed acoustic guitar.
