LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Police are investigating a wrong way crash that killed a woman and injured a Huntsville police officer.

The crash happened on eastbound I-565 near County Line Road in Limestone County around 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Huntsville police spokesman Dr. Harry Hobbs said a woman driving a maroon-colored car drove westbound in the eastbound lanes, striking the officer's cruiser head-on.

Police said 29-year-old Tabatha Rhodes of Madison was killed in the wreck.

Hobbs said the officer, Lieutenant Corey Harris, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Harris was treated at Huntsville Hospital and released.

Rhodes' family members said she had a history of seizures.

"She had more friends than anyone I know," said Dauphne Maples, the victim's mother. "She was a very popular young lady because she was so friendly. She was very generous. She had a huge heart."

All lanes of I-565 reopened just before 7 a.m.
