MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) -

Family, friends and community members gathered at the Village Green in Millbrook for a candlelight vigil in honor of Victoria Smith. She was killed in an accident Sunday evening on Highway 14 near Kensley Lane.

"On Sunday, before I left, I walked by and gave her a hug, and before she even knew it, I was giving her a kiss on the forehead telling her I loved her," said Jared Smith, Victoria's brother.

Since Sunday, her family and friends have tried to come to grips with her death.

"She was the youngest but she was the rock," said Nolan Smith, Victoria's brother. "And so she always held us together with everything, she always the one that made us laugh, the one that made us cry."

The vigil drew hundreds, even those who didn't know Victoria well.

"The shock," said Velora Loughmiller, a co-worker of Victoria's mother.  "So young, and just a beautiful girl by all accounts, you can tell by the turnout here that she touched a lot of lives."

Victoria Smith was a Senior at Stanhope Elmore High School. Her family announced at the vigil that her brothers will be allowed to walk in her place during the school's graduation ceremonies in May.

A memorial service for Smith will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Coosada Baptist Church. The visitation precedes the service at 4 p.m.
