BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Developers of Louisiana's first "Trader Joe's" grocery store have released new artist renderings of the property. The store is expected to open in Baton Rouge in September.
Construction of the 13,000-square-foot specialty supermarket is well underway at Acadian Village on Perkins Road at Acadian, next to Acme Oyster House. Trader Joe's is similar to stores like Whole Foods.
Tina Rance, marketing director for the property, says 16 other stores will be located in the strip that will include Trader Joe's. Rance says she hopes to release the names of 7 of those stores next week.
"I think it's going to be a huge hit and a regional draw," Rance said of Trader Joe's. "Recently, one opened in the suburbs of Dallas and people camped out for two days to be there when the doors opened."
Rance says the store will employ about 50 workers and hiring should begin this summer.
