MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The City of Maumee is getting ready to make some big job announcements, starting with 70 new jobs on the way to Arrowhead Park.
Arrowhead Park is home to a number of businesses in Maumee, and it will soon bring 70 more jobs for Schindler Elevator out of Chicago. But Mayor Rich Carr said there's more to come.
"The Andersons are putting in a $6 million expansion on their rail car facility," Carr said. "We have the huge Kroger store, the Super Kroger store that's going in. Most of our Arrowhead Park, where we had vacancies before – they're now filling up."
Maumee has 15,000 residents, but there are 33,000 people working in Maumee businesses.
Dealing with just over a million-dollar deficit, new jobs means new revenue that the city needs.
"Those businesses are really important to our community," Carr said. "They keep up the quality of our lives and our residents do not have to pay the additional fees."
He also said the city is actively seeking grants to bring more businesses to town, and will be making more job announcements in the coming months.
But Maumee, he says, sells itself.
"You've got no labor issues that are going to be there for the next three years, you have an excellent-rated school system, you have the lowest income tax rate," he said. "So we have a lot that we can offer and we're just continuing to put that out there to employers."
