PLATTENVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

The utility company accused of causing raw sewage to flood into homes in Platenville, LA has now filed for bankruptcy and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has officially taken over the subdivision's problems, according to one resident.

Two weeks ago, residents of the subdivision contacted WAFB 9News about their problems.

Residents blame Density Utilities, the company that maintains their sewer system, for the overflowing of raw sewage and water into their homes. Residents tried to salvage some items by putting them in the garage, but piles of carpet, flooring, sheet rock and ruined personal belongings lined the curb sides in the subdivision.

Residents said the lines backed up twice in a week.

A call to the Lucky Hit subdivision residents in Plattenville by the Assumption Parish Police Jury giving them the news was a relief to the residents.
