GREENSBURG, LA (WAFB) -
A Mississippi man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on LA-10 in St. Helena Parish.
State Police say James Ponder was driving west in a Ford F-750 auger truck when he failed to slow down for stopped traffic and ran off the right side of the road to avoid a crash. Ponder then overcorrected, causing the truck to spin as it re-entered the roadway, overturned and continued for about 70 feet.
Ponder was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened around 9 a.m. near the St. Helena-Tangipahoa Parish line.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
