AMITE CITY, LA (WAFB) -
Two men were sentenced to serve 10 years each on their
fourth DWI offense.
The 21st Judicial District Attorney's Office said Judge
Ray Chutz handed down the punishments Monday to Raymond Lewis, 43, of
Springfield and Transito Carbajal, 37, of Hammond.
Both men pleaded no contest to the charge in separate
cases.
Lewis was pulled over on I-55 for driving 90 mph in a
70 mph zone on July 28, 2012. Reports indicate Lewis told the officer he had
drank two bottles of Mike's Hard Lemonade before driving. According to
officials, he then performed poorly on a field sobriety test and his blood
alcohol content (BAC) was .158 percent. The legal limit in Louisiana is .08
percent.
Carbajal was arrested on Sept. 29, 2012 after a traffic
stop on Club Deluxe Road in Hammond. Officials said he also performed poorly on
a field sobriety test. His BAC was .171 percent.
