BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Firefighters responded to a fire that destroyed one house
and spread to other homes Wednesday evening.
The fire sparked at a home in the 1500 block of
Heartwood Drive in Baton Rouge around 5:15 p.m.
The East Side Fire Department said its crews made it on
scene within three minutes, but the vacant house was already fully engulfed in
flames. It is considered a total loss.
Fire officials added the flames were also affecting two
neighboring homes. One home next door caught fire, causing damage to the
upstairs bedrooms and the attic. The heat from the fire damaged the siding on
the other home.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and
remains under investigation.
The fire department noted because of a new inter-parish
box alarm, firefighters from the Baton Rouge Fire Department, St. George Fire
Department and Central Fire Department were automatically dispatched to the
scene to assist the East Side Fire Department.
District 6 Fire Department sent crews to East Side's
district to cover any new incoming emergency calls.
