BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Voters in Baton Rouge will not be deciding on whether the city's police chief should be an elected position, at least for now.
If approved, a proposal before the East Baton Rouge Metro Council Wednesday would have put the measure before voters.
However, after a brief discussion on the issue, the council voted to remove the item from the agenda. Councilwoman C. Denise Marcelle supported the move to delete the item after it was clear she did not have the support needed for it to pass. Marcelle said she would move to have the proposal reconsidered in the near future.
Currently, the Mayor-President has sole authority to hire or fire the city's police chief.
