Rally held against TennCare expansion

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

There could be a Medicaid expansion in Tennessee by the end of the year, but several lawmakers are trying to keep that from happening.

Opponents of the expansion held a rally at Legislative Plaza on Sunday afternoon.

Under the Affordable Care Act, the state can choose whether to expand TennCare, which could give coverage to an additional 150,000 Tennesseans.

U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais, a doctor, was among the politicians at the rally.

Some say that would be too expensive and could cripple the state financially in the future.

Gov. Bill Haslam said he'll make a final decision on the expansion before the end of this legislative session.

The state could miss out on $1.4 billion in federal funding if TennCare is not expanded.

    A man accused of an attempted armed robbery Thursday night was shot in the process and died early Friday morning, according to investigators. The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Kylin Spencer, 19, died at the hospital from gunshot wounds.
