Harrison County investigators say the manager of a dollar store made up a story about being robbed while leaving work, all in an effort to cover up an embezzlement scheme. Now, Cristin Danyel Dedeaux, 34, is charged with felony embezzlement and false reporting of a crime.
The Gulfport woman worked as a manager at The Dollar General Store on Hwy 53. Wednesday morning around 7:30, she called 911 to report a robbery. When deputies arrived, she described how she was leaving the store to make a deposit when she was robbed at gunpoint.
During the investigation, it was determined the alleged robber never existed. The sheriff said Dedeaux made it all up in an attempt to conceal the fact that she had embezzled about $11,000 over a four month period while employed as manager of the store.
Two days after that 911 call, deputies issued an arrest warrant for Dedeaux, and she surrendered at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. Bond was set at $25,000 on the embezzlement charge, and $500 on the false report charge.
