The LHSAA Girls Basketball Class 3A State Championship between Rayville and Baker was ugly and never close as the Lady Hornets stung the Lady Buffs, 71-38, to win their first state title.
Rayville was led by Victoria Wilson and Thomasina Minor, both scoring 17 points each. Minor was named the Most Outstanding Player of the game.
Baker led 2-0 to start the game but never led again. The Lady Buffs scored a total of 18 points in first three quarters. It was a very sloppy performance by Baker, shooting only 18 percent from the field (11-62 FG).
Anitra Whitfield led the Lady Buffs with 16 points.
The Lady Hornets led 28-14 at the half and watched their lead balloon to 48-18 after the third quarter.
Baker scored 15 points in the final quarter and avoid the lowest scoring total in a Class 3A State Championship game, which was 23 set by Pineville in 1979. Baker finishes the season with a 26-6 record.
