PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A tree that marked a space in downtown Portland known as the world's smallest park was ripped from the ground.

Someone stole the small tree from the small space known as Mill Ends Park on Southwest Naito Parkway and Taylor Street.

A Portland Parks & Recreation spokesman said it happened sometime last week, but there is no suspect information.

The tree was replaced with a brand new baby Douglas Fir Wednesday afternoon.

Mill Ends Park was dedicated on St. Patrick's Day in 1948 and became an official city park 28 years later.
