PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) -
Authorities
arrested more than two dozen suspected drug dealers during a raid early
Thursday morning dubbed Operation Prescribed Justice.
They said
the roundup focused on people selling prescription drugs in Iberville Parish.
Sheriff's
deputies and police officers executed 31 of 52 warrants they had on people
investigators said had sold pills to undercover officers over the past eight
months.
The sting
hit the Bayou Sorrel area hard, as well as the city of Plaquemine. Law
enforcement agents said there is a serious pill problem in the parish.
"The
message is people who want to deal drugs in Iberville Parish is we will not
sleep," said Sheriff Brett Stassi. "We will not stop. We will
continue to go after them until we can eradicate it. The pill problem is
something that is here. It's here for a while and it's something we need to
work on."
Clearly,
not everyone taken into custody was happy to be caught on camera. Of the six
trailers located in one trailer park, three were raided.
All of
those arrested had been indicted by a grand jury and their bonds were pre-set
by judges.
