BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Authorities said a man suspected of burglary led them
on a chase that ended with him colliding with another vehicle and crashing into
a tree.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said the
driver of the other vehicle was not seriously injured, while the burglary
suspect suffered a broken leg. The suspect's name will be released once he is
booked into parish prison.
EBRSO said someone flagged down a deputy around 7:30
a.m. and reported seeing a silver SUV leaving a neighbor's house on Antietam
Avenue in Shenandoah. The information was passed on to other deputies and one
of them patrolling on Jones Creek Road at Coursey Boulevard spotted the
suspect's vehicle.
The deputy reported trying to pull over the SUV but the
driver refused to stop, resulting in a chase. Authorities said during the
pursuit, the suspect's SUV crossed the median and slammed nearly head-on with
another SUV on South Harrells Ferry Road.
Investigators said the suspect then turned onto
Lirocchi Drive, went through a ditch and plowed into a tree. They added items
believed to be stolen were found inside the vehicle.
He will be booked on charges of burglary, theft and
aggravated flight. Other charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
