BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A Baton Rouge woman claims a well known company that sells storage buildings
is giving her the run around.
She said she paid Morgan Buildings Spas and Pools six months ago, but they
never delivered her shed.
Mildred Brown has a large yard. She said when the temperatures climb she
enjoys entertaining her family and friends by the swimming pool. She stores her
seasonal items in a shed. She said when it got full she looked for similar one
at Morgan on Airline Highway.
"I went to the place because I had bought one before and we were very
happy with it and I wanted to get one just like that, same size, same
color," Brown said.
Brown signed a purchase agreement in August and put down just over $1,800.
That's half the cost of the shed. Brown said a salesman told her the shed would
be delivered in six to eight weeks. When October came and the storage unit
never arrived Brown said she called the company.
"It was just one excuse after the other one. Come Christmas, November,
you still have not delivered my storage house and I'm having to pay and I have
stuff out in the weather and it's winter time," said Brown.
Brown covered a lot of her yard furniture with tarp. But some of her chairs,
propane tanks and other items rusted. When Brown called to complain she said
Morgan knocked $300 off of her bill but the shed still wasn't delivered.
"In January they finally said, okay we finally got our steel and it's
going to come out of Texas and they are averaging ten buildings a day. Ok, if
you are averaging ten buildings per day, Do the math? I am talking about one
building. It does not take that long."
When 9News went to Morgan Buildings on Airline Highway we found an empty
office and a sign posted outside of a storage unit telling customers they have
moved to Metairie. The former manager of the Baton Rouge office told 9News both
locations went out of business. But more than a dozen sheds still sit on the
property.
Brown said she is running out of patience.
"If I can't get the building now, I want my money back."
The director of purchasing for Morgan, Michael Morgan, said the Baton Rouge
location was closed because it was "under-performing."
He also said the property owner is keeping all of the sheds on the property
as back pay for the rent Morgan owes.
Morgan said he is looking into Brown's purchase, and that the company plans
to make good on their promise to deliver.
