BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
CLARIFICATION: The judge in this case has given DPW the authority to tear down this home if DPW deems it necessary. We apologize that our original report did not reflect that.
A judge has given the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Works Department the authority to tear down a home if the workers deem it necessary.
Neighbors near the home, located at 428 Stoney Creek Avenue, have been complaining about the home being in disrepair for nearly six years. The home was heavily damaged in Hurricane Gustav and little, if any, repairs were made.
The homeowner, David Burke, was arrested last year on child pornography charges and is currently in jail awaiting trial.
On Monday, District Court Judge Tim Kelley ordered DPW workers to immediately clean up the home's yard and secure the residence. Kelley also asked DPW workers to assess the condition of the home and gave them the authority, if they deem necessary, to demolish the home.
"Enough is enough," said Highland Creek resident Patrick O'Neal. "It's time to condemn the property and move on. When I found out he was arrested child pornography, all sympathy was lost. But, before that, he looked like a guy with a lot of problems."
