Only one boys team from the Baton Rouge area punched its ticket to the State Championship game in Monroe. Madison Prep advanced to the Class B championship game with a 66-48 win over Castor. LSU signee Jarell Martin finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds, while sophomore Brandon Sampson dropped in a game high 22 points.
Christian Life and UHigh were not as fortunate as Madison Prep. Both schools were knocked out of their respective games in overtime losses. Defending 1A champs Christian Life fell 43-41 to Metairie Park Country Day in the Class 1A semifinal. Country Day's JC Younger knocked in the game winning shot with under seconds left in the game. Christian Life's Malik Harrison had a chance to win the game for the Crusaders with 1.7 seconds remaining but his three pointer came up short.
The Uhigh Cubs also lost their game in overtime, losing 64-62 to Riverside in a Class 2A Semifinal game. The Cubs trailed by 14 points in the second half, but stormed back to send it to overtime. Uhigh forward Wayde Sims dunked in Skylar Mays layup attempt at the buzzer. The game went to overtime tied at 60 but with 5.4 seconds left Riverside Guard Charvon Julien dropped in the floater to send the Rebels to the 1A title game.
St. Thomas Aquinas from Hammond takes down Winnfield 49-45 to advance to the Class 2A State Championship game.
