CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Clarksville man has been charged after his son showed up to school Thursday upset and with bruises on his face.

Jeffrey Wade Coleman, 29, is charged with child abuse/neglect after police said his 8-year-old arrived at a Clarksville elementary school and said his father had beaten him up, thrown him to the ground and kicked him multiple times.

Coleman told investigators he had spanked the boy earlier in the day, but did not admit to the other alleged actions, police said.

The Department of Children's Services was contacted, and the boy was allowed to go home with another family member.

Coleman is jailed on $25,000 bond.
