BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Several members of the WAFB-TV staff received awards from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters (LAB) during the organization's annual "Prestige Awards" ceremony Thursday.
Veteran WAFB news anchor Donna Britt received the organization's "Golden Mic" award. The LAB presents that award each year to a person who has made significant contributions to the State of Louisiana.
A graduate of Louisiana State University, Britt began her career in broadcasting at WLBI radio in Denham Springs. In 1981, she was hired as the first-ever female deejay at WYNK radio. She celebrated her 30th anniversary at WAFB last year.
Two other WAFB employees were also recognized at the LAB banquet held in Baton Rouge. The LAB held a contest asking participants to create commercials that tout the benefits of advertising on either television or radio. Jeff Marshall and Chris Blades, both WAFB employees, created an ad together and were among the two winning television entries. Marshall and Blades will share a $5,000 prize.
