SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
A man police say intentionally placed himself and his car in the path of an oncoming train Thursday morning is expected to survive his injuries.
It happened at the crossing on McNeil Street in downtown Shreveport. Police say the train struck the car on the passenger side, dragging the vehicle about two blocks before cars on the train disconnected and the whole thing came to a stop.
The driver was taken to a local hospital with what police are describing as "non-life-threatening" injuries. They say he admitted to driving on the tracks in a suicide attempt.
He is expected to undergo a mental evaluation at the hospital.
It's not clear yet whether the man will face any charges.
