SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
A Caddo Parish teacher faces criminal charges following an alleged assault of a juvenile Tuesday afternoon.
Shreveport Police charged Kasunda Barfield Daniels, 29, of Shreveport, with simple battery after she allegedly hit a student while at Westwood Elementary School.
The incident happened at about 2 p.m., shortly before police were called to the school to investigate reports that a teacher had struck a child.
Authorities made contact with Daniels who works as an In School Suspension coordinator at the school.
In an interview with Daniels, detectives gathered information indicating that Daniels allegedly slapped an 11-year-old student while monitoring students in the school's cafeteria. Daniels was subsequently issued a summons for simple battery.
The child suffered no injury and was released to a parent. An investigation into the allegations continues.
