A pilot who caught the attention of authorities after stashing gas cans in northern Arizona won't be operating aircraft any time soon.
William Stokely has pleaded guilty in federal court to falsifying his helicopter's tail number. Under a plea agreement, he cannot possess or fly an aircraft for two years.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security began investigating Stokely in 2011 after receiving a report that he was leaving fuel around Winslow and Flagstaff.
Investigators found that the tail number had been altered on Stokely's helicopter and that he didn't have a valid certificate to fly.
Stokely entered his plea earlier this month. He says he's a good guy and wanted to avoid the possibility of a felony conviction.
The Oklahoma businessman is a part-time Flagstaff resident.
