DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
The Decatur City Council unanimously approved Resolution 13-056 "in support of development of the Highway 20 corridor."
The entire Decatur City Council signed a confidentiality agreement with a developer.
The developer wishes to remain anonymous at this time.
However, the city council said it is a major development and should be a catalyst for further development of a larger portion of the area.
The current proposal projects it will ultimately provide approximately 1,350,000 square feet of retail development at a projected investment of $1.3-billion and employ as many as 4,000 people in the construction and operation of businesses within the project area.
Several years ago, a similar project was in talks, Sweetwater Alabama. It was proposed to bring Bass Pro Shops to the Decatur area in the same corridor. The project never developed.
It is unknown if the projects are connected.
On Monday, Bass Pro Shop said at this point in time they have no plans to move to Decatur.
The entire Decatur City Council signed a confidentiality agreement with a developer.
