League of Women Voters celebrate 93rd anniversary

The League of Women Voters celebrated their 93rd anniversary on Saturday.

Members attended the Susan B. Anthony Luncheon in honor of the anniversary.

The League's president, Elisabeth MacNamara, was the keynote speaker. MacNamara talked about an upcoming Supreme Court case which could put the 1965 Voting Rights Act in jeopardy. If the Court should rule against the Voting Rights Act, millions of voters could face disenfranchisement.

"On election day, we are all equal," said MacNamara in a MinnPost interview. "And the League believes that the best way of ensuring the integrity of our election process is to make sure that it's free and open to every eligible voter."

Since their founding in 1920, the League of Women Voters has worked to protect and uphold the constitutional right to vote. The League has fought to ensure that elections are fair, free and accessible to all eligible citizens.
